Dreaming

Rub-a-dub-dub Paul is in the Tub, a day dream for now. I believe I have mentioned before this writing we play the "I'm looking forward to...." game. This photo is the perfect image of our game.
Paul is looking forward to a long soak in the big tub. He looks forward to enjoying the peaceful view and a long warm soak. What are you looking forward to.....2008?

Floors Covered

Steve worked much of the holiday week on the stair case trim, it won't be long before he is finished with the railing.
After the wood floors are installed Steve started rolling out corrugated paper to protect them. We still have a lot of workmen coming in and out and this should be a great help to protect the surface of the floors.
The plumbers were first at the job site this morning. They installed the hot water heater, utility sink and reverse osmosis purifier today.
The last piece of granite was installed around the jacuzzi. Little by little each job is completed.
My photos are out of order tonight there seems to be a little glitch with Blog Spot. I will try again tomorrow to revise their order. For now, thank you for looking in on us. Goodnight.

Wood Floors

The men started laying the wood flooring in Elizabeth's bedroom on Christmas Eve. They returned today and completed her bedroom then moved out into the hallway. The wood flooring is prettier than I ever thought it would be.

The weather has been warm in the afternoon, just right for Gary Powell's cement crew to work Christmas Eve. They poured the narrow cement skirt needed at the back of the garage and cement for the short under ground electric line from the pole to the house.
Today we ordered the permanent electric meter which should be installed next week. The lights will be on in the McWhorter house very soon.

Merry Christmas 2007

We were away from our computers for several days which kept us from posting a Christmas note until today. We hope you had a wonderful Christ filled Christmas.
We received many nice photos and Christmas letters from many of you and enjoyed hearing from everyone. Many included nice notes of encouragement regarding moving into our new home in 2008....thank you. Merry Christmas Paul, Anna and Elizabeth Ann.

Backsplash

The tile-men continue to lay and grout tile. We had hoped they would be finished today, but looks like they will have to come back tomorrow to finish up. One of the tile-men crafted a simple design for me just above the space for the slide in stove, very nice. We chose a six inch tumbled tile for the kitchen which is laid in an off set pattern.
Steve had to put off the flooring-men one more day since the tile-men are behind. They will arrive tomorrow to start their prep work and start laying the wood flooring in the afternoon.

Floor tile

Over the weekend, and all day today the floor tile men were busy at the house setting tile in place. They will grout the floor tile tomorrow. Today they completed grouting the showers.
I noticed one of the men using a rock to form a very small piece of floor tile needed in the kitchen while four other tile men where up stairs working on bathroom floors. We chose an 18 inch floor tile by Shaw named Sierra.

Our Christmas Tree

Last year at this time Rita and Elizabeth surprised us by decorating two cedar trees in the circle drive with some Christmas ornaments. This year Rita surprised us again by dressing up the entrance with her big purchase from Dollar General in Eldorado. She gathered up arm fulls of clearance ornaments during their after Christmas sale last year. Rita knows how to make our lives fun, festive and joyful. We appreciate her time, talents and effort to bring us Christmas cheer.
We have been asked if we will be in by Christmas and have to say no. Presently our move in schedule is Januray 2008 , we are looking forward to the New Year.

Marvelous Granite

We were in town all day for our weekly shopping and many errands. First stop today was to Tunget Awning to select metal railing needed for the balcony. We had an idea of what we wanted and discussed them with Mr. Tunget. He was very helpful with size and proportion of railing for the balcony. The metal railing will be painted to match the color of the columns and stucco on the house.
We arrived back to the river just before dark and rushed over to the house to see the granite counter tops. With no lighting in the house I was worried we wouldn't be able to take pictures tonight. All the counter tops had been installed and they are marvelous! There was certainly a difference in the bathrooms and kitchen with counter tops on top of the cabinets. The color of the granite is called Verde Peacock. It looks black in the photo, but actually very dark green with gold flecks.

Ceiling Fans, Stain & Tile

The cement man was scheduled to pour the skirt at the garage Monday, but it has rained the past two days. Steve told us today that Gary is still coming, just waiting on the weather.
In the mean time the electrician arrived today and installed the ceiling fans. He will be in and out over the next two weeks installing all the fixtures and outlets.
The painters are presently working on the floor molding and staircase balusters. They have quite a shop set-up out in the garage. They paint, sand, and paint again. Steve boarded up the garage to keep the wind and rain out of the space while they work. They did a wonderful job staining the study sliding doors....just perfect.

The tile men finally showed up this afternoon, they were supposed to be here Monday. They brought all the floor tile and will start laying tile in the morning.
While we were there this afternoon Steve received a call from Carroll's tile, they are ready to install the granite counter tops-tomorrow! Looks like everyone will be climbing over themselves at the house tomorrow. We like that....the more the merrier.

Rock Fireplaces

The builder informed us Friday afternoon the Osernio Masonry men were coming on Saturday to rock both of our fire places and add an additional retaining wall we needed. Their crew arrived at 7:00 a.m. sharp and completed all our rock work before dark. They are fast.

Paul met the men at the house when they arrived. He wanted to make sure they understood exactly what we had envisioned for each fire place. With his direction they each one came out perfectly.

When the rock-men originally completed the retaining wall we noticed we would have a problem with a back fill of dirt off the garage. We decided then we would need an additional retaining wall coming off the end of the garage. This first photo is off them starting the wall off the garage and the second is the post Paul had them build at the end of the wall.

Color Continues

This is Elizabeths reading room which is a darker green than the other rooms upstairs. The painting inside will continue through Saturday. There were four painters at the house hard at work today. They are trying to finish the inside paint in order for the tile men to start laying tile the first of next week. The weather has been nice and warm all week, perfect for painting.
Steve set up his equiptment last night on the balcony and continued working on the columns today. With so much of the work on the inside I have not posted a picture lately of the outside. The outside grounds of the house still look like a construction zone, but won't for much longer.

Columns & Gold

Steve completed the columns on the front porch this evening he is an excellent craftsman, the proportion of the columns is just right. Now on to the balcony columns, five more to go. Again, the columns will be painted "Luna" the same color as the stucco. Where do paint designers come up with the names for their colors?
The painters have one coat on the walls downstairs, they will have the second coat completed tomorrow. The color we chose for the downstairs is called Golden Gate. I like how cheery this color makes the great room. It makes me smile.

Paint Color

The color we chose for the upstairs is up on the walls, it is called pine needle. The painters started painting the golden gate color downstairs this morning which is going to be a nice contrast. Today the painters removed the plastic which has been covering the cabinets. I can't tell you how much I like the cabinets, they are just perfectly finished..
The builder told us this morning the tile company started on our counter tops today and the flooring company will arrive on Monday the 10th of December to start laying the wood flooring upstairs. The builder continues to make progress, but looks like we will not be moving in until after the New Year. We are looking forward to 2008!

Columns

Steve made one of the front porch columns this morning and it was exactly what we had in mind. He used cedar wood around the post which will be painted to match the stucco.
The utility room counter top was installed yesterday. We decided to use a double sink that was given to us by Paul's brother rather than a single sink as we planned. The double sind took up quite a bit of the counter space. I didn't plan this very well.

Painting Doors

Our painting progress continues as the painters started spraying the doors today. I thought their method interesting. They hammer a stake to the top of the doors, lean them against the wall, spray one side, then turn them around and spay the other. They will certainly dry quickly using their method. We like "quick."

Prime & Sand

The painting work continued today. The priming completed yesterday was sanded by the painters today. I don't know when they will finish all that sanding, looked like a huge job. There were many drawers to be sanded as well as the wood trim. We are anxious to see the first colors to go on the wall. The weather was warm enough this afternoon for the painters to turn off their heater and we are expecting another nice day of sunshine tomorrow.

Painting

Over the Thanksgiving weekend the Craven family stopped by while in town visiting their parents for the holiday. We met them at the house Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving. They enjoyed the very cold tour of the house. Afterwards we headed over to Shanan's Bakery in town for coffee and coco to warm us up.
When we walked into the house we found the painters, with their heater blowing, busy inside preparing to spray the ceilings. I didn't think they would be working over the long holiday weekend, but was so glad they were.

The painters were back early today painting ceilings and priming some of the cupboards. They estimate the painting job to take a couple of weeks.
Steve, our builder continued to add trim to the staircase and other areas of the house.

Thanksgiving

What does thankfulness look like? I asked myself this Wednesday as we were driving into Eldorado to stay with Paul's parents over Thanksgiving weekend. We have so very much to be thankful for.
Psalm 50:23 reads - But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.
The Bible teaches in order for me to give thanks to the Lord it must be a true heartfelt sacrifice of praise that honors God in all circumstances. This is what thankfulness looks like to me.
Happy "Thankfull" Thanksgiving.

House Warming Gift

Paul's Aunt Patricia came by for a visit this afternoon toting two large boxes. She was anxious to give us a house warming gift which arrived by UPS today. House warming gifts had never entered our thoughts before this afternoon. Patricia you really surprised us!
The boxes were well packed with a service of twelve fine English China serving plates including a delicate tea cup, all in a very elegant design. They are lovely.
We look forward to serving on these beautiful new dishes at the open house and then displaying them in the curio cabinet above the kitchen counter. Thank you again for your generous gift.

Encouragement

Steve and Frank finished cutting trim for the baseboards downstairs, then moved on to making shelves for the storage area in the garage.
We met with Johnny McDonald the painter today. He wanted to walk through the house with us room by room to finalise our paint color selections. He completed the work on the stained cabinets today and will start painting tomorrow.
We had hoped to have a small meal together at the house on Thanksgiving with Paul's family, but with all the paint fumes and the weather turning cold that day we decided it was best to cancel those plans.
My sweet friend Kathryn wrote us an encouraging email today, she said "Next yr, God Willing, your home will be filled with all the wonderful smells you want - turkey, dressing, cranberries, pumpkin pie, hot rolls...yum. So close...hold on! moving day's around the corner. Thank you Kathryn, you made my day!
