Rain Again

We woke to rain again Friday morning as we started out on our day trip. The rain let up the closer we came to San Antonio. We had a very nice dry day together shopping all over the city.

The rain continued in Christoval throughout the day holding up the framers from work on the house Friday.

More rain in the forecast for the beginning of the week. It just doesn't want to stop.

Dispite the Rain...

California has fires and Texas has rain, rain, rain. We had another rain storm last night and more in the forecast tonight. We have had no flooding here as in Northeast Texas.

The men framed the chimney in the morning and then after lunch they worked on the house dormers. Dispite the rain the framers are faithful to show up on the job and continue their work. We appreciate their faithfulness.

We met with Scherz Landscape Co. this after noon. They had a wonderful landscape drawing to show us. The sketch included a retaining wall at the front of the house and many native plants filling in the space. It was exactly what we had visioned for the front.

Tomorrow we are taking the day off and heading to San Antonio for some fun.

More Rain

Rain again today has held up our building process. Paul went over to the property at 7:00 am just after the rain let up to sweep out any standing water on the second floor. He found the builder already on the job pushing out any water. We appreciate him.

The framers arrived about nine o'clock to try and get some work done today. We have rain in the forecast for the next three days.

Rita worked last Friday and Saturday sanding, priming and painting the new flag poles silver. She said she wants to apply one more coat. They are looking great!

Rita gave us an American flag at Christmas and Elizabeth gave us a Texas State flag for our Mother's and Father's Day gifts. We are ready to fly both as soon as we get them in the ground.

Hello Up There!

It was hard to see the amount of work that was completed today. Then we climbed up on the roof over the garage and could see the framers work. There are many more support boards from the back to the front of the roof over the garage, and the dormers had siding on them. There were stacks of plywood that had been moved up to the top of the roof too. I assume in preparation to close in the top of the roof. We hope they start closing in the roof soon because rain is in the forecast for Wednesday.

Look closely. You might see a couple of people looking back at you from the dormers.

Roof Dormers

At the end of the work day Friday the dormer facings over the house were in place. After the men left for the weekend Paul and I climbed up on top of the house to look through the dormer openings. The Attic on top of the house is a very large space! After walking around up there seeing how large the space really was we thought we might like to make a game room up there. I could see much farther from the dormer windows up there than the view from the balcony. This made me want to incorporate the space into the house some how. For now we will just keep chewing on that idea.

Last Saturday after Mr. Caldwell delivered the flag poles. Rita said she wanted to paint them for Paul's for his birthday. Paul and I needed to get them up off of the ground so Rita could start this job. We struggled lifting them ourselves, they are heavy 50' poles. The framers saw we needed help and quickly lent us a hand, or they would still be sitting in the dirt. Thank you Rita for coordinating the purchase of the poles and for painting them. We appreciate all your many talents, helps and hard work.

First Meal

Today we had our very first meal in our home. How do you like our new dining table? We knew we would be working at the property this morning and planned yesterday to take lunch for the men. When I asked the framing foremen Frank Gomez and his sons to join us, they didn't hesitate to say "yes." They were very helpful to set up a make-shift table for our lunch together.

Frank and his sons completed siding the east side of the house before lunch. After lunch it looked as though they were securing the roof trusses, and then continue to work on the dormers over the garage.

The weather was cool and cloudy today which made for a nice work day.

Framing Dormers

Today the framing crew worked on the dormers on the house and dormers over the garage. They also worked on siding at the east side of the house above the fireplace.

One of the neighbors across the road from us stopped by this morning to check in on our progress. We have enjoyed sharing the day to day progress with the people in town who stop in. That is the fun part. Everyone who comes by has lots of nice compliments. They enjoy the big view from the upstairs balcony. We purchased four rocking chairs for the balcony a couple of weeks ago. We invite all to come back to enjoy the view from a rocking chair after the house is finished. No one has declined our invitation so far!
